The blend of Le Tinte is 75% Sangiovese and 25% Cabernet Sauvignon.
The name Le Tinte comes from a location at the center of the winery called Podere Le Tinte. Le Tinte in Tuscan means 'colors' and, especially in the autumn, from this location you see a great part of the Cecina Valley with a great variety of colors from the gray/yellow of the ploughed fields to the reds and yellows of the changing leaves of woods and vineyards interspersed with the green of the fields at the bottom of the valley. All this with the ancient city of Volterra in the background.
This wine is a "Super Tuscan" which is considered the rebel wine of Tuscany. An emerging wine style since the 1960's, they were originally experimental and a result of the winemaker's curiosity. They are classified as IGT, which are table wines, but they also might use "unapproved" winemaking methods such as aging in small, nontraditional oak barrels. Also these wines might use nontraditional varietals in the blend, such as Merlot, Syrah, and Cabernet Sauvignon. While the styles vary, most of these wines are small production with intense, rich fruit and thick texture.
